Intra-ocular foreign bodies; report of 102 cases.

چکیده
THERE is no universally accepted "best" method of treating an intra-ocular' foreign body apart from its extraction from the globe. The controversial points may be summed up as: (a) anterior or posterior route of extraction, (b) diathermy of scleral field or simple incision, (c) Haab or Mellinger type of giant magnet. An intra-ocular foreign body is a surgical emergency and it is important to keep operative procedures simple and not above the heads ofjunior hospital staff; but ultimately the methods proposed must be judged by their results, visual as well as economic. This type of case is not frequently encountered and it is difficult to draw conclusions from the material of one particular clinic, especially as only one approach is usually followed as a routine for a number of years.

If the out-patient notes were not sufficiently up to date, a letter was written to the patient at his last known address asking him to re-attend for ...

متن کاملUse of the echogram in the location and diagnosis of intra-ocular foreign bodies.
IT is often difficult to locate an intra-ocular foreign body. Sometimes it may be seen and localized by biomicroscopy, ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, or diaphanoscopy. Yet radiological examination is necessary in every case, because the foreign body seen by the foregoing methods is not invariably the only one present in the eye. Although x-ray methods (Comberg, Dixon, Goldmann and Bangerter, Sweet...
متن کاملForty-seven consecutive cases of intra-ocular foreign body.
A CONSIDERABLE literature has accumulated upon the subject of retained intra-ocular foreign body, with arguments extolling the virtues of the anterior route method of extraction over the posterior route and vice versa. Various authors have attempted to formulate precise indications for one or other method which in principle have amounted to anterior removal of the smaller foreign bodies and pos...
